Pike Island Hydroelectric Project

The Pike Island Hydroelectric Project is an ambitious initiative on the Ohio River at the existing Pike Island Lock and Dam in Belmont County, OH. The purpose of the Project is to utilize existing infrastructure to generate carbon free electricity for the community in an environmentally sustainable manner that will enhance the local economy and community well-being. The 19.9 MW facility will generate on average 132,000 MWh of carbon free energy annually, enough to power over 12,000 homes.

The Pike Island Hydroelectric Project will provide numerous economic benefits to the Belmont County community across the full life of the project through job creation, local business support, and tax revenue.

The Ohio River is the center of several recreational activities available to residents of Belmont County and visitors. Throughout the development process, Current Hydro has actively engaged with the local community to enhance the local recreational experience.

The Project is anticipated is expected to break ground in late-2025 and reach commercial operation by the fall of 2027.
